A 4:19 a.m. on Sunday, May 27, 2012, the Salt Lake Fire Department responded to a structure fire at 162 N 1000 W. Upon arrival, firefighters saw heavy black smoke coming from one unit of the duplex. The firefighters entered the unit and quickly extinguished the fire.· Fire investigators determined that the cause of the fire was unattended cooking on the stove. The one resident of the unit was not home when firefighters arrived. Investigators believe the resident left the scene after the fire started. The unit that suffered the fire is uninhabitable. The resident from the adjacent side of the duplex was evacuated but later able to return inside. That side of the duplex did not suffer any damage. |
